Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Save Game Location Revealed!

Are you stuck in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pazs as well? Have you spent countless hours completing missions, gathering supplies, yet still can't seem to unlock the elusive items or reach that one final boss battle?

Well worry no more! Today we're going to reveal a little secret for all of you players out there who are struggling with this incredibly challenging game. In my personal experience playing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pazm I found myself at an impasse multiple times, only to discover the solution was hidden in plain sight - literally.

To access your save games on PS3/PS4 simply follow these steps:

1. Open up the XMB (Xross Media Bar) menu by pressing triangle or circle depending on which controller you're using.

2. Navigate down until you see 'Save Data' and select it with either analog stick.

3. Scroll through the list of games until you find Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pazm, then choose that option from the drop-down menu.

Now here's where things get interesting - instead of selecting 'Load Save', click on 'Options' at the bottom right corner instead (it looks like two overlapping squares).

Next up go to System Information > System Settings -> Save Data Management. Scroll down until you see Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain under 'Game' and select it.

You'll now be presented with several options; we want the last one which says 'Delete'. Confirm your decision by pressing OK on DualShock controller or A button on Dualshock 3/4/XbonePad controllers respectively. This will completely wipe all of your progress, so make sure you've saved everything important before proceeding!

Once deleted, simply restart your console and load up Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pazm again from the home screen as usual.

To load up an existing savestate instead:

1. Open up the XMB menu again (as above).

2. Go to 'Game' > 'Data Management'.

4. You'll now be presented with several options; choose 'Load Save' from here.

You can also use a third-party save editor like PSVita-Sav or even just copy/paste the exact location of your desired savestate into Notepad++/Notepad2++, depending on what operating system you're running:

Windows: C:\Users\Username\Saves\MetalGearSolid5

Mac OS X:

~/Library/Application Support/PlayStation Save/

com/KojimaProductions/MGS5US/

Linux (Steam): ~/.steam userdata/(your steam id)/270000/270035

Once inside these folders, look for a file called 'saves.dat'. Rename it to something else like 'backup.sdat' just in case things go wrong later down the line.

Now that we've covered how to access and manage your Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pazm save files let's talk about actually finding them:

1. Open up Notepad++/Notepad2++. If you don't have either of these text editors installed, now is a great time to download one from their official websites:

2. Once opened up, navigate to where you extracted your Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pazm game data folder earlier today.

4. Inside here will be a bunch of files with .dat extensions - these are actually just compressed versions of individual save states!

5. To extract one simply double-click on it or right click > 'Extract Here', depending on which operating system you're running.

6. You should now see all your extracted saves inside a new folder named after the original file name without '.save' at the end (e.g., '20170214112345_save').
